🧭 Navigator was inspired by my daytime job, where I've spent the last 20 years working in GIS and visualisation. The compass, maps, mountains and lighthouse all felt like the perfect inspiration for a mosaic crochet design.

The finished blanket ended up with the perfect owner too. I gave this one to a colleague I've worked with for those same 20 years. He is the original map guy, so it only seemed right that Navigator should be his.

I always love it when a design has a story behind it. It makes it feel a wee bit more personal.

Inspiration can come from anywhere. Lomond started with a visit to the pier at Rowardennan on Loch Lomond.

The tall posts of the jetty against the mountain peaks caught my eye, and before long my brain was turning those shapes into crochet.

A few sketches later, Lomond was born.

Scotland has never been short on inspiration. 💜🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The sea thrift clinging to our rugged coastline. The thistles standing proudly across the countryside. The rolling waves that are never quite the same twice.

That's where Alba began.

Named after the Scottish Gaelic word for Scotland, this design is my celebration of the landscapes that make this wee country so special. I wanted to capture a little of Scotland's wild beauty in crochet – from the coastal flowers to the rhythm of the sea.

I don't think I'll ever run out of inspiration here.

My pattern Nana's Dresser was tested for me by a lovely lady called Merry Gano, who some of you may remember.

She sadly passed away in 2023 before I released the pattern.

About me.

Hi, I'm Abi, the designer behind Get Yer Hook On.

I taught myself to crochet in 2018, just before my 41st birthday, after watching YouTube videos. What started as a new hobby quickly became an obsession, and when I discovered overlay mosaic crochet in 2020, I was completely hooked.

A few months later, I decided to have a go at designing my own patterns. I released my first design in June 2020 and haven't looked back since.

I'm based in Kirkintilloch, Scotland, where I live with my husband and our Cane Corso, Lorca. When I'm not working, you'll usually find me with a crochet hook in one hand or creating my next design on a pixel art app on my phone. Most of my patterns actually start life as tiny coloured squares before becoming a blanket!

Scotland is my biggest source of inspiration. From dramatic landscapes and ancient castles to Celtic knots, wildlife, folklore and the changing seasons, I love turning the places and things I love into crochet.

My aim is to create patterns that are fun to make, easy to follow, and something you'll be proud to display in your home. Whether you're new to overlay mosaic crochet or you've been crocheting for years, I hope my designs inspire you to pick up your hook and create something you'll treasure.
